Mancherial women distribute free meals to poor Covid patients
Realising these ordeals of the underprivileged, a group of seven kind-hearted women from Mancherial have decided to contribute their mite to Covid patients
Mancherial: One of the core requirements of any Covid-19 patient is a nutritious diet. This is easier said than done for people from poorer sections of society as most of them are struggling for even one meal a day, particularly in these pandemic times. Realising these ordeals of the underprivileged, a group of seven kind-hearted women from Mancherial have decided to contribute their mite to Covid patients.
Shiva Keerthi Kasam, Tekula Madhavi, Nalmas Madhavi, Latharaj Boppu, Bhavana Rohini, Bodakuntla Pushpalatha and Idineni Deepa embarked on the novel initiative of feeding Covid patients on May 9, which incidentally marks International Mother’s Day. They reside in different parts of the district and are associated with diverse fields, including home-making.
The women have recently become members of Narisena Global Women Forum, a Hyderabad-headquartered international voluntary organisation whose objective is to empower the marginalised and disadvantaged women from various backgrounds. As a maiden activity, they are feeding financially weak patients with their savings and donations. They have been sending out around 70 food packets, comprising dry fruits, eggs, vegetable curry, dessert, curd, among other eatables, every day to the needy free of cost.
“So far, we have supplied nutritious, hygienic homemade lunch and dinner to over 700 patients who are under home isolation in different parts of Mancherial town. We share the responsibilities involved in preparing dishes, dispatching the packets, identifying patients and other tasks,” Shiva Keerthi, the head of Narisena’s Mancherial chapter, told Telangana Today.
The women earlier posted their contact numbers on WhatsApp groups and their Facebook walls, enabling patients to place their requests. They then recruited three persons to deliver the parcels at the doorstep of the infected. They are winning laurels for not only satiating the hunger but also providing quality food to the patients during the ongoing crisis.
“At a time when the poor patients are struggling for two square meals a day, the gesture of these women is matchless. At least, some patients can win their battle against the virus because of this group’s help. One can draw inspiration from these women and serve the patients in their own way,” K Satyapal Reddy, a social activist, opined.
“The recipients are sending video messages expressing gratitude to us. We are humbled and we derive great pleasure in serving the needy. We thank the donors who generously donated funds for the noble cause and whoever extends their support to us in this mission,” Rohini, one of the seven members, stated.
