Medak: Medak Collector Pratima Singh, who visited an organic farm of farmer Potharajula Balaraju at Usrikepally, called upon the farmers to follow the path of Balaraju in producing healthy food to the people.
After going through the field on Thursday, the Collector interacted with Balaraju and his family members to learn about the various practices he was following in avoiding pesticides and fertilisers in cultivation.
Suggesting the horticulture and other concerned department officials provide training to the farmers who were willing to cultivate organic crops, she said that the officials must design a certificate programme for such farmers.
Pratima also directed the officials to help the farmers build a brand for their products and in marketing them. She observed that it is everyone’s responsibility to provide healthy food to future generations.
Balaraju said that he was growing vegetables, fruits and paddy in an organic way, which are in great demand. The model farmer explained to the Collector how to prepare organic fertilisers and vermicompost.
