Medak villages ban private school buses, boost enrolment in government schools

Two villages in Medak district have significantly increased enrolment in government schools after restricting private school buses from entering their villages. Teachers, supported by sarpanches and residents, say the initiative has encouraged parents to choose government schools over private institutions.

Medak: At a time when the students enrolment in government schools went down drastically across the state, a few teachers with the help of respective village sarpanches and villagers had made all out efforts to increase the enrolment.

In one such move, two villages in Nizampet mandal went a step ahead and banned entry of private school buses into their villages. The result was immediate as the enrolment in these government schools increased considerably.

K Sampath, teacher at primary school Khasimpur, said that the strength came down to four in the school at the end of 2024-25 academic year when he was posted here. Nearly 30 primary school aged students were going to different private schools located in Nizampet mandal headquarters from this tiny village which hardly had 300 population.

After talking to local sarpanch and other villagers, he motivated the villagers to ban the private schools from entering Khasimpur in June 2025. The strength immediately increased to 19. After two 5th class students cracked the Navodaya School entrance examination this year, the strength further swelled to 24 this year.
Now, only five students were going to private school from this village, using their own transportation. Similarly, the neighbouring Shoukathpally also banned the entry of private school buses into their village. The strength in the school increased to 30 from 14.

Khasimpur sarpanch Ramachandar and Shoukathpally sarpanch Sunitha have extended all the support to teachers here. Headmaster of Shoukathpally L Nagesh said that they would not let any student go to private schools by next academic year.
However, the teachers said that they will provide better education if they get some support in providing facilities in the school. Ramachandar observed that they could pursue the parents to join in government schools since the teachers were qualified and they had commitment in giving their best.
