Hyderabad: Mission Kakatiya, a flagship initiative of Telangana government, got SKOCH Award for repairing and restoring minor irrigation water bodies across the State.

Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Ramachari received the award. Officials said the uniqueness of the nomination was that the Mission Kakatiya website was integrated with the Irrigation Department IT application for authentication of employees.

It was also integrated for geo-tagging water bodies apart from integrating with the Finance Department for submission of work bills online.

The entire system of online monitoring was developed in-house by engineers in the department. “We have the facility to receive donations online from NRIs, corporate offices and others, and access through social media,” officials said.

The government has taken up the project to fill tanks with water drawn from major projects thereby increasing agriculture produce of small and medium farmers. About 46,000 water bodies were taken up for repairs in five years after segregating and prioritising them.

The website’s integration has resulted in transparency and accuracy. Flood damages and suicides of farmers came down drastically, and fisheries and crop production increased enormously. Using data from the website, district, mandal and constituency maps were also developed to monitor works.

Officials said the online monitoring of operations and maintenance of water bodies was helping in avoiding misuse of public money and maintaining transparency.
