Plot
Kantara: Chapter 1 goes back to the origins of the sacred forest and the daivas that protect it. The story follows Berme (Rishab Shetty), the fearless leader of the Kantara tribe, who stands up to King Kulshekhara (Gulshan Devaiah). When the arrogant king threatens the sanctity of the land, Berme steps out of his world to face caste injustice, violence and greed. The film blends folklore, faith and the fight to protect one’s roots.

How is the Film?
The first half takes its time, focusing on world-building and character introductions, but the second half rises with action, drama and an impactful twist. Some humour feels unnecessary, and a few parts drag, but the story picks up strongly once the conflict deepens. Unlike the first Kantara, which was intimate and emotional, this prequel is mounted on a much larger, more spectacular scale.

Cast
Rishab Shetty once again proves his acting prowess, especially in the possession sequences where his screen presence is magnetic. Gulshan Devaiah gives weight to the role of King Kulshekhara with a mix of arrogance and cruelty. Rukmini Vasanth has good scope in this film, and she delivers a powerful performance that leaves a strong impression. Mangala, as Berme’s mother, and Jayaram add further depth to the story.

Technical Side
The film’s strength lies in its technical brilliance. Ajaneesh Loknath’s music and background score lift the emotional and action sequences to another level. Arvind Kashyap’s cinematography beautifully contrasts the tight palaces with the sprawling forests, while the VFX team deserves full credit for the realistic animal detailing and action set pieces. Rishab Shetty, as a director, deserves praise for balancing folklore with commercial spectacle and ensuring the film remains rooted while still feeling grand.

Final Verdict
Kantara: Chapter 1 may not match the raw soul of the original, but it succeeds in creating a powerful and large-scale prequel. With Rishab Shetty’s strong vision, top-notch technical work, and solid performances from the cast, the film delivers a gripping experience. It is a grand, visually stunning story that deserves to be watched on the big screen.
