Khammam: Travelling on Mudigonda-Kodad road in Mudigonda mandal is not an easy task, if one is travelling on a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler.
The five kilometres stretch from Mudigonda mandal headquarters to Venkatagiri cross roads in Khammam rural mandal in the district is full of large potholes making it highly treacherous to traverse. Some potholes are as wide as the road itself.
Interestingly, of the five kilometres stretch, three kilometres fall in Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s Madhira constituency and two kilometres in Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s Palair constituency.
It looks like none of the ministers nor officials are paying any attention to the problem. Several granite industries are located on either side of the road and heavy vehicles carrying massive granite slabs pass this road on a daily basis making the plight of the roads even worse for two-wheeler riders.
Speaking to Telangana Today, a local mechanic Venkateshwarlu of Mudigonda complained that accidents is a common phenomena on the road. It is highly risky for two-wheeler riders to travel on the road as the potholes pose great threat to their lives, he said.
He informed that when it rains two-wheeler riders often fall into the potholes filled with water as the potholes covered with water are difficult to spot while riding. Several complaints made to the officials yielded no result, he said while asking the ministers Srinivas Reddy and Bhatti Vikramarka to address the issue.
The locals and student unions have staged protests several times in the past demanding the district administration to look into the issue and carry out repairs. But the issue remained unresolved, said a private teacher Y Swamy.
