Khammam: An initiative ‘Naa Khammam Kosam Nenu’ launched by Khammam district Collector Muzammil Khan to help families affected by recent heavy rains and flash floods receiving immense response from the public.
The initiative is aimed to collect donations in cash and kind from charitable organisations, common public and prospective donors. The district administration in consultation with Ganesh Utsav Committees has set up hundis to collect cash, groceries, clothes, stationery and others.
The hundis have been placed at every Ganesh pandal under the limits of Khammam Municipal Corporation, four municipalities and in gram panchayats in 19 mandals in the district with the beginning of Ganesh Navaratri celebrations.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Khammam Zilla Parishad deputy CEO, Nagalakshmi, who is monitoring ‘Naa Khammam Kosam Nenu’ initiative in rural areas informed that as on September 12, an amount of Rs 12.48 lakh was collected in rural areas along with 7190 kg rice and 661 units of clothes besides some stationery items. MPDOs, MPOs, APOs and SHGs have been mobilising funds from well to do donors, she added.
The cash and other items collected in municipalities and Khammam Municipal Corporation is yet to be known. The cash collected would be deposited into the District Disaster Response Fund (DDRF) account to help the flood affected families, informed officials.
Khammam District Ration Dealers Welfare Association handed over a cash cheque of Rs1 lakh to District Collector Khan for the initiative.
Ramanthapur Hyderabad Public School vice chairman, Khammam MP Ramsahayam Raghurama Reddy handed over a cash cheque to the Collector on behalf of teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.
In addition to the help offered by the State government, several charitable organisations, individual donors and business establishments have come to the rescue of the flood affected families. They have been providing groceries, clothes, bed sheets and cooking utensils on large scale on their own for the past several days.
