Nalgonda: Mystery over the severed head placed at the feet of Goddess Kalimata idol in Mettu Mahankali temple in Gollapally village deepened further on Tuesday with the investigators drawing a blank not only in finding the torso but also gathering any worthwhile clue. The family members who failed to understand the reasons why he was killed were veering round the view that it could be a case of human sacrifice, as the victim, Ramavath Jahender, was a bachelor and below the age of 30 years- two reasons which they suspect it to be a case of human sacrifice.
The district police formed six special teams to leave no stone unturned in getting a clue as to what or why and how the sensational incident happened, but lady luck seemed to have eluded the investigators. The police are verifying the call records of nearby mobile telephone towers in the hope of getting some clue, but they did not succeed on this count. Similarly, the CCTV footage was also being examined even as forensic teams were sieving the area for any possible clue. Though no breakthrough came till evening, Deverakonda DSP Anand Kumar was confident of cracking the myster in a day or two.

Ramavath Jahender
What surprised many was the fact that Jahender was a graduate and had some issues with his mental health. He had even undergone treatment in the Institute of Mental Health at Erragadda in Hyderabad earlier. He was known to be a polite person and always respectful to others. He was a native of Shunyaphad village, about 100 km away in the neighbouring Suryapet district. It was yet to be established as to whether he had come to Gollapalli village. None of the village residents recall seeing him in the vicinity of the temple or in the village strengthening the suspicion that he could have been killed in cold blood elsewhere and his chopped head deposited at the feet of the Kali mata idol.
The police found themselves in another quandary after they shifted the decapitated head to the mortuary in Area Hopsital at Deverakonda. Forensic experts could not conduct autopsy as his torso was not yet found. With this, they had preserved the severed head and are waiting for the torso so that they could at least determine the time of death and as also collect other clues, which could be extremely vital in cracking the mystery.
Meanwhile, Jahendar’s family members told newsmen that the victim was residing at Turkayamjal and they could not comprehend how or why his head was found in a far off temple. Jahender left his house at Shunyampahad and was living at Turkayamjal and Ibrahimpatnam areas for the last two years. His father Ramavath Shanker Naik said they made futile attempts to bring his son back to come as the latter had made it clear that he would live separately at his preferred place. How Jahender came to Gollapally was a big puzzle, he added.
The victim’s relative Ashok said that Jahender left his house two years back and living at Turkayamjal and Ibrahimpatnam. He was living on temple premises and on roadside. He was known to the be friendly with everyone except his family members. He was not known to have any love affair too. Jahender’s uncle Bharath Naik said that his nephew who completed graduation went into depression after failing to get a job. Though he had mental sickness, he behaved respectfully with others, he asserted adding that he had no enemies.
