Hyderabad: The efforts of the Telangana government in helping MSMEs and kirana stores embrace digitalisation have been lauded by Nasscom. The IT industry body said Telangana is among the select States that are using digital platforms for enhanced government-citizen engagement and for bolstering the digital economy.
The report — `Digital India: The Platformisation Play’ — launched on Tuesday said Telangana collaborated with GloblaLinker, an AI-powered platform for digitising SMEs, to launch a digital networking platform called `TS-GlobalLinker’ in early 2019. It offers free e-commerce stores, enrols MSMEs to a special purpose Telangana Mall, saves on business costs, and provides legal services at pre-negotiated rates.
During the pandemic, TS-GlobalLinker launched the KiranaLinker to allow traditional grocers to create their e-stores with integrated payment gateway and logistics solutions. This service was particularly relevant during the lockdown, with restricted movement and social distancing becoming the norm. Consumers stayed safe at home while ordering essential commodities online from their local kiranas.
The duo had also partnered with Sapio Analytics last November where the latter provided 20,000 free licences of its accounting and automation software Accloud for one year for use by SMEs in Telangana.
Telangana apart, the Nasscom report also mentioned Kerala’s education platform for online learning in schools, Karnataka’s farmers’ registration and unified beneficiary information system, and Tripura’s `Jagrut Tripura’ that helps citizens get government benefits.
The report said digital India initiatives are pivotal for the country’s competitiveness and had broken data silos and created shared technology infrastructure.
Aadhaar, the largest digital identity platform, is acting as India’s digital backbone. So far, 1.3 billion Aadhaar IDs have been generated as of June 2021. UPI, the largest digital payments ecosystem, recorded 3.2 billion transactions in July 2021, Nasscom said adding that the rising UPI penetration is a game-changer for India’s digital ecosystem. It also mentioned the vaccination platform, CoWin, which enabled the administering of over 500 million doses.
The open digital ecosystem has the potential to create new value of more than $500 billion and generate savings of $200 billion to the country. These Indian platforms are being adopted globally, said Nasscom, which mentioned about 20 such high-impact platforms. Low-cost development, interoperable design, and large-scale adoption are success drivers for public platforms in India, the industry body added.
