Hyderabad: Former Minister S Niranjan Reddy charged that the Congress government, which is failing to honour its key promises to farmers, was now making fresh assurances of Rythu Bharosa only to win municipal elections.

He accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of shamelessly promising to release Rythu Bharosa benefits when crops were nearly ready for harvesting, calling it a meaningless exercise.

Responding to Revanth Reddy’s remarks, Niranjan Reddy questioned why Rythu Bharosa had not been implemented despite promises of Rs 15,000 per acre to farmers and tenant farmers and Rs 12,000 annually to agricultural labourers. “Who stopped you from providing Rythu Bharosa after the commencement of Yasangi (Rabi) season,” he asked, pointing out challenges faced by farmers due to urea shortages.

The senior BRS leader also criticised the Congress government’s handling of the Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara at Medaram. He said, despite the government’s claims of spending Rs 250 crore, temporary structures began collapsing within weeks. At the same time, devotees attacked the Ministers’ vehicles over lack of basic facilities like power and transport during the Jatara celebrations.

Dismissing the Congress’s criticism over BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao not attending the festival, he asked whether public welfare schemes depended on an individual’s presence.

“The government is spreading lies instead of delivering on its assurances,” he said.
