Nizamabad: The Nizamabad police on Saturday arrested five persons including three women in connection with a separate robbery and theft case in the district.
In the first case, three women – S Salamma (44), D Suguna (38), D Chandrakala (35) and an auto rickshaw driver D Suresh (34), all residents of Nizamabad decided to steal cash and other valuables from people who get down either at the bus or railway station in the town.
Around 8 pm on Monday, the quartet met a person G Srinivas, who was waiting to hire an auto rickshaw, and offered to drop him at his destination. From the railway bridge, they took him to an isolated place behind Radha Krishna theatre and threatened to kill him if failed to give them money, said Nizamabad Police Commissioner KR Nagaraju at a press conference on Saturday.
While Salamma, Suguna and Chandrakala snatched Rs.20,000 from Srinivas, the auto driver was waiting near the theatre to alert them if anyone arrives at the spot. After giving Rs.2,000 to the auto driver, Salamma took Rs.7,000 and the remaining amount was equally distributed between Suguna and Chandrakala and went to their residence.
Based on a complaint, the police booked a case and zeroed in on the four accused persons based on technical evidence collected during the investigation. The police recovered the stolen cash along with two mobile phones from the possession of the arrested persons.
In the second case, the police arrested a 21-year-old mechanic Shyam Limbadri Katta on charges of stealing a digital camera and a laptop from Ravi photo studio at Canal Katta in the district on February 5.
Shyam, a resident of Kottagally in the district, was unable to meet his expenses since he was addicted to bad vices. Apart from doing mechanic work, he used to attend catering works. While returning home after completing catering work, he noticed Ravi studio, which was locked.
