Sangareddy: A dog, which was rescued from the clutches of death by NGO, Citizens for Animals, at Yeddumailaram in Kandi mandal in the first week of January, delivered five puppies four weeks after her rescue.
The news of some unidentified persons dumping some 32 dogs off a 40-foot-high bridge had shaken the State. The legs and mouths of the dogs were tied with a binding wire to make them starve to death. When a good Samaritan noticed them struggling, he called the Citizens for Animals (CFA). Prithvi, a volunteer of Citizen for Animals, with the help of the Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS) rescued them on January 4.
However, 21 of 32 dogs died by the time the volunteers reached the bridge. The CFA provided treatment to the remaining 11 dogs in various rehabilitation centres for the last one month. However, 10 of them died while undergoing treatment. The only which survived, overcoming many challenges, delivered five puppies on January 30.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Prithvi said the dog was two months pregnant when they rescued her. It starved for food for many days as its mouth and legs were tied. However, Prithvi said it still survived and delivered five healthy puppies. The animal rights activist said the mother dog has been feeding the puppies well even though it is still battling various health issues. Though the CFA had registered a complaint at the Indrakaran police station, they could not trace who dumped these dogs off the bridge.
