Hyderabad: Protests against the Telangana Congress government, demanding the release of recruitment notifications for government jobs, continue to rock the city, with Osmania University (OU) students now staging a demonstration on the university campus here on Monday. A huge rally was taken out from the Ambedkar Main Library to the OU Arts College, followed by a dharna.
Speaking on the occasion, OU PhD scholar and BRSV general secretary Jangaiah demanded that the government issue a notification for 20,000 police posts instead of the proposed 5,000 vacancies.
The protesters also demanded that the government honour its Assembly election promise of issuing a mega DSC recruitment notification for 25,000 teacher vacancies. They wanted the government to fulfil its election assurance by releasing notifications for two lakh vacancies in different government departments.
OU students warned that they would intensify their protests and hold dharnas against Congress leaders, including the Chief Minister, Ministers and MLAs, if the demands of unemployed youth were not met.
OU student leaders Jangaiah, Ramakrishna, Srikanth, Nagender Rao, Raju, Kavitha, Bhargavi, Saidulu, Tirupati and Venkatesh, among others, participated in the protest.
Over the last few days, the city has been witnessing a series of protests by unemployed youth, particularly police job aspirants, demanding an increase in police vacancies for recruitment.
On Sunday, the unemployed staged a dharna in Dilsukhnagar here with black bands tied over their eyes. They demanded that the State government increase police job vacancies from 5,000 to 20,000 posts and release the recruitment notifications accordingly.
The government job aspirants argued that notifications for 5,000 police posts would not be sufficient, as they have been waiting for a long time.
As there have been no police recruitment notifications for a long time, the unemployed said several candidates had crossed the upper age limit. They wanted the government to raise the upper age limit for uniformed services to 36 years. Earlier, they conducted a signature campaign over their demands.
