Chennai: Neelam Productions, the production house of director and producer Pa Ranjith, has warned the public about fake audition calls being circulated in its name. The team urged actors and the general public not to fall for such fraudulent posters.
Taking to its X timeline, Neelam Productions issued a clarification: “Beware of FAKE AUDITION CALLS in the name of Neelam Productions. Please check for casting calls and audition alerts only from our official social handles. Thank you!”
The company also shared a poster that read: “FAKE AUDITION ALERT! Neelam Productions. It has come to our attention that numerous audition calls/posters are being circulated in the name of Neelam Productions. We would like to declare that these audition calls are fake and not to be trusted. Any audition/casting-related posters will be shared only through our official handles. Announcements and audition calls made through external sources are fraudulent. Thank you! Instagram – @neelam_productions Twitter – @officialneelam.”
Neelam Productions is the latest production house to face this issue. Several actors and production houses have dealt with similar incidents of fake casting calls being circulated in their names.
Earlier this year, Raaj Kamal Films International, the production house of actor Kamal Haasan, issued a statement after discovering fake casting calls in its name. In its clarification, Raaj Kamal Films said: “This is to clarify that Raajkamal Films International has not hired any casting agents for any of our films. Please do not trust any emails, messages and social media posts received by you for this purpose. Legal action will be taken if any party is found falsely using Raajkamal Films International’s name in any unauthorised manner.”
Prior to this, Tamil film actor Sibi Sathyaraj, son of veteran actor Sathyaraj, best known for his performance as Kattappa in the pan-Indian blockbuster Baahubali, also alerted the public about a fake casting call in his name. He clarified that he had nothing to do with either the person who put out the poster or the project mentioned in it.
The fake poster claimed that a film directed by Sakthi Saravanan and featuring Sibi Sathyaraj in the lead was looking for male and female actors aged 25 to 50, as well as child artistes aged 10 to 15, and asked them to send their profiles to a given number.
In February this year, Wunderbar Films director Sreyas also cautioned the public against fake casting calls. He said any casting calls in his name or in the name of Wunderbar Films, owned by actor Dhanush, were “absolutely fake and baseless.” He clarified that “+91 7598756841 is not my number and is being misused with my picture.”
Prince Pictures, another reputed production house, had also issued a cautionary notice, warning actors about fraudsters who claimed to offer roles in Sardar 2 in exchange for money or other favours.
