Hyderabad: The police made every possible attempt to prevent youth and BRS cadre from reaching Saroornagar for the Yuva Sangrama Sadassu on Saturday, but these efforts did not deter the youngsters from attending the meeting. Despite the High Court granting permission for the event, the police tried to stop youth and BRS workers at several junctions leading to the venue.
Ignoring the restrictions, the participants reached the venue in large numbers, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere throughout the meeting. Youngsters alleged that the police also attempted to seize placards and other campaign material at the venue but were unsuccessful.
Several youngsters criticised the Congress government, accusing it of failing to fulfil the promises made during the Assembly elections. They warned that the government would face the consequences in future elections.
The police also stopped several BRS leaders from different districts while they were travelling to Saroornagar. Tension prevailed near the Golconda Outer Ring Road after BRS MLC Naveen Reddy and his supporters were stopped, leading to heated arguments with the police.
Earlier in the day, former Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, BRS General Secretary RS Praveen Kumar and other leaders were placed under house arrest to prevent them from attending the meeting. Following protests by BRS leaders, the police later allowed them to participate.
