Hyderabad: BRS women activists staged a protest with empty water pots in front of the HMWSSB office near IDPL in Quthbullapur on Monday. They demanded immediate action to address the worsening drinking water crisis in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas.
Led by BRS Whip K P Vivekananda, the protesters raised slogans against the Congress government and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging that several colonies were facing acute water scarcity and poor pipeline pressure. However, they said the government had turned a blind eye to their woes.
Addressing the media, Vivekananda said the previous BRS government had resolved drinking water problems by strengthening reservoir infrastructure and expanding household supply connections. However, he said the present Congress government had failed to manage water distribution, pushing residents back to dependence on private tankers.
The BRS MLA stated that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy prioritised his Delhi visits to safeguard his post over the severe drinking water crisis plaguing the State. He said he had already taken up the matter with senior HMWSSB officials, but no concrete action had been taken. He warned that the BRS would escalate its agitation and lay siege to the Chief Minister’s residence if the crisis was not resolved urgently.
