Collector Muzammil Khan serves lunch to PwDs at Khammam Collectorate.
Khammam: The district administration has planned a series of measures for the welfare of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the district. One among such measures is providing free lunch to the PwDs visiting the District Collectorate on official work. The idea has been mooted by district Collector Muzammil Khan. He along with additional Collector Dr P Sreeja launched the facility on Wednesday.
He said that the decision to provide free midday meals to PwDs has been taken following a request received in Prajavani 40 days ago. The arrangement is made considering them as guests as well as to see that they could feel at home when visiting the collectorate.
All the differently-abled persons visiting the collectorate on any work should use the free midday meal and no one would be refused. Since the district collectorate is located on the outskirts of Khammam city this arrangement has been made. Quality meals would be served through Mahila Shakti Canteen and Rs 80 is being spent on one meal, the Collector said.
Necessary steps would be taken to make it successful. The PwDs should get a token with Software for Assessment of Disabilities for Access Rehabilitation and Empowerment (SADAREM) certificate and Unique Disability ID Card (UDID Card) to avail free lunch, Muzammil Khan explained.
He said that steps would be taken to ensure that every differently-abled person in the district gets a UDID card in the next three months. Efforts are being made to ensure that the differently-abled persons in the district live a dignified life. Steps are being taken to set up a ramp for the differently-abled in every government office.
A special help desk is being set up for the PwDs at every tahsildar office in all the mandals in Khammam district. Officials have been directed to revive the coordination committee of PwDs at the district level to resolve their complaints.
Information about government schemes would be provided regularly in the WhatsApp groups for the differently-abled people in the mandals, the Collector said, adding that concerned officials have been directed to take steps in that direction.
