Hyderabad: Motorists are facing a backbreaking experience travelling on the rain-battered roads in the city.
The situation is nearly the same along major road networks and internal stretches across most areas — whether in the IT corridor or the older parts of Hyderabad.
Take the case of the Vijayanagar Colony main road. Large portions of the stretch have given way to potholes and craters, making commuting difficult. A similar scene can be seen on Rasoolpura Road in Begumpet and Domalguda Road, both of which are severely battered by the rains.
“The roads in the city are offering a backbreaking experience. Except for a handful of thoroughfares in VIP bastions, the remaining roads are badly damaged,” complained Vishal G, an IT professional.
Akash Singh, a resident of Dhoolpet, said the stretch from Jiyaguda Junction to Nanalnagar is badly damaged. “It is a rough surface. It cannot even be considered a road given the agony it is causing to road users,” he said.
The Tolichowki–Shaikpet road is another menace, causing frequent traffic slowdowns. “The road conditions have been deteriorating for a fortnight and are creating major problems for commuters. Traffic slows down at several points on this stretch,” lamented Taher Farez, an academician.
The situation is no different in eastern parts of the city such as Uppal, Dilsukhnagar and Nagole, where the road surface has been washed away and pebbles are strewn across the main roads, posing a serious danger to motorists.
