Hyderabad: A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice A Rajasekar Reddy on Thursday directed the government to file a status report on protection of Ramappa temple, which is now a world heritage site. The government said that the State was going to fulfil all the commitments to manage the historic temple and ensure it is protected. The matter has been adjourned to January 6 for further hearing.

Pollution case taken up suo motu

The panel on Thursday took up a letter suo motu as a PIL based on a media report on chemical industries in Jeedimetla, which were allegedly dumping untreated chemical effluents in canals and polluting water. It was observed that the material that was being dumped had heavy arsenic metals and substances like nickel cadmium which emanate pungent odour during rainy season and significantly affect the ground water affecting health of local people. The government was directed to file a status report.

Govt told to file counter

In another case, the panel directed the government to file a counter in a matter pertaining to providing electricity connections and ambulance services to tribal people living in remote forest areas. The writ plea was filed by Adivasi Sameksha Parishath. The petitioner contended that the government had flouted the special laws in favour of the STs. The government sought six weeks to file a counter. The matter was adjourned to January 22 for further hearing.
