Retired agriculture officer turns numismatist, exhibits antique coins in Telangana’s Adilabad

Adilabad: A three-day long exhibition of rare coins, which began at Kala Ashram in Adilabad on Saturday, evoked a good response from visitors. The event is being organised by a retired agriculture officer and novelist Bori Muralidhar from the town.
Muralidhar said he was conducting the first of its kind exhibition, featuring 230 coins of various metals and some of them dating back to 600 AD. He claimed that he was showcasing the coins belonging to dynasties such as Kanishk, Vishnukundina, Mohammad Bin Tughluk, Mohammad Jalaluddin, Akbar, Shajahan, Chatrapati Shivaji, Aurangzeb, Tippu Sultan, etc.
The numismatist stated that while 130 coins of silver, 100 metals were made of silver, copper, bronze and gold. He recalled that he could gather the coins with the help of friends in various countries including Japan. He recollected that he had been collecting the coins for many decades.
Muralidhar was recipient of the district-level best writer award from the State government on the second Telangana State formation day in 2015. To his credit, he had published two books titled “Nirudu Kurisina Kala” and “Nemalinaara” in 2016. He hails from Sonala village in Boath mandal, but settled in Adilabad long ago.
