Hyderabad: Former Telangana State Minorities Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan strongly condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s remarks on Muslims during a rally in the Jubilee Hills bypoll campaign, terming them irresponsible.
He demanded that the Chief Minister withdraw his statement and issue a public apology for undermining constitutional equality.
In a statement, Abid Rasool Khan reminded that Muslims played an important role in the formation of the Congress much before independence.
He asserted that no political party can become the custodians of Muslims or any community in the country as the Constitution guarantees freedom to practice religion irrespective of parties. He stated that the strength and worth of any community does not rest on the patronage of political powers.
“The statement exposes a feudal mindset and tries to bring fear into the minds of Muslims, indicating that if they do not align with the Congress, then their existence is in danger. It sends wrong signals especially when the head of a State speaks such language in a public meeting,” he added.
