Kothagudem: The SCCL management has been caught up in a dispute over recovery of union subscription on behalf of the recognised union, AITUC, from its employees.

Different trade unions alleged that Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) management recovered the subscription amount illegally from workers on behalf of the All India Trade union Congress’ (AITUC) coal mines union- Singareni Collieries Workers union of CPI. It might be noted that it has been a practice in the SCCL for the management to recover the recognised union’s monthly subscription from the employee’s salary with a proper authorisation from the worker and to hand over the same to the union concerned.

Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) affiliated Singareni Collieries Employees union state general secretary Manda Narasimha Rao said the Singareni management recovered Rs.500 each under temple committee code in October salary without the consent of the employees. It is not proper for the company to recover the recognised union subscription from employees’ wages under the temple committee code without their consent. The company should have recovered the subscription under the 1875 union code but not under the temple committee code, he said.Speaking to Telangana Today, Narasimha Rao informed that many workers affiliated to AITUC have been protesting at SCCL mines against the recovery of subscription from their pay-sheets without their authorisation.

He stated that it is not a proper practice to make recovery without verifying the authorisation and statement of recovery of workers from the concerned union and the company management should bear full responsibility for that. It is the responsibility of the Singareni management to ensure that no industrial relations problems arise in such matters. The management should fully check whoever has not consented for recovery and refund the full amount to them immediately, he demanded.Congress affiliated Indian National Trade union Congress’ (INTUC) Singareni Coal Mines Labour Union, which is the representative union, has also raised similar objections over the recovery of the subscription.

The labour union’s Kothagudem area vice president Md. Razak said it is unbecoming of the company to recover the subscription under the temple committee code and it is not proper to unilaterally make recovery without checking the authorisation statement. The AITUC leadership has been confusing the workers in this matter, he alleged.
