Hyderabad: Sify Technologies, an ICT solutions provider, through its wholly owned subsidiary Sify Infinit Spaces Limited (SISL), is looking to expand its presence in Hyderabad and other key metros in the data centre space.

The company currently operates a Global Data Centre and Technology Innovation Centre in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, where it has invested over Rs 550 crore.

The existing centre is equipped with extensible cloud infrastructure and hyper-connect network. With a 35,000 sq ft raised floor capacity, the Hyderabad centre is located in one of the safer seismic zones and offers seven-layer physical security.

A Sify spokesperson told Telangana Today, “We have one data centre, strategically located in Gachibowli, in the financial district of Hyderabad. This location hosts several BFSI & ITeS companies, startups and MNCs largely Hyderabad-based but also operational from other parts of India, many of whom are Sify’s existing customers.”

Kotak Special Situations Fund (KSSF), managed by Kotak Investment Advisors Limited (KIAL), entered into an agreement with Sify recently, under which KSSF will invest up to Rs 1,000 crore ($135 million) in SISL.

The funds would be used to invest in SISL’ current plan which is under execution to develop new data centres in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Noida, Chennai and Bengaluru and for investment in renewable energy requirements for its operational and new data centres for up to Rs 4,000 crore ($530 million).

Sify expanded into the data centre business in 2000. The company has built and today operates 10 carrier-neutral data centres, currently offering more than 70 MW IT power.

Capacity ramp-up

Following the facility at Vashi, Sify followed up with larger capacities in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Airoli and Rabale (Mumbai), Noida and Kolkata and aims to add 200 MW in the next four years. Through CloudCover, Sify also services a network of about 50 data centres across India.

“The Hyderabad centre (8MW) has already attracted $75 million (over Rs 550 crore) investment. The potential is strong in the city and the south in general. The eventual capacity of our Hyderabad centre will be more than 50 MW of IT power. We expect these capacities to be live by 2024,” the spokesperson added.

More than 10,000 businesses across multiple verticals utilise the company’s data centres, networks and security services and conduct their business seamlessly from over 1,600 cities in India. Globally, Sify has a presence across North America, the United Kingdom and Singapore.
