Kothagudem: After a gap of two years Sri Rama Navami was celebrated with all its splendour and gaiety here at the historical Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Devasthanam.
The celestial wedding of Lord Rama and his consort Seetha was performed on a grand note on Sunday as part of Sri Rama Navami in the presence of ministers, elected members and common devotees, who turned up in large numbers to witness the religious spectacle.
It might be noted that for the past couple of years Sri Rama Navami celebration was confined to indoors of the temple with a limited number of ministers, legislators and officials in attendance in view of the Covid crisis.
The rituals related to the celebration started early in the morning with special pujas in the main temple. Later at 10 am the festival deities were taken from the main temple to beautifully decorated Mithila stadium amid chanting of Vedic mantras.
After that the priests performed ‘Vishwaksena puja’ and other rituals. In ‘Abhijhit Lagna’ the wedding ceremony was performed followed by a colourful talambralu event.
Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar and Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod offered silk clothes and mutyala talambralu to the deities on behalf of the State government, a tradition followed since the times of Bhakta Ramadasu.
Priests from Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple of Srirangam in Tamil Nadu, Sringeri Peetham in Karnataka, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Chairman Y V Subba Reddy and the heirs of Bhakta Ramadasu also presented silk clothes to the deities as per the tradition.
Zilla Parishad Chairman K Kanakaiah, Bhadrachalam MLA Podem Veeraiah, Endowments Commissioner V Anil Kumar, District Collectors of Khammam and Kothagudem, VP Gautham and Anudeep D and Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt were among those present.
Lord Rama’s ‘Maha Pattabhishekam’ (coronation) ceremony would be conducted at the temple on Monday. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan was expected to attend the ceremony.
