Stage set for MLC polls in Telangana

Karimnagar: Elaborate arrangements have been made for the MLC election from Karimnagar Local Authorities Constituency on Friday. Polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm.
A total of eight polling stations – two each in Karimnagar, Jagtial, and Peddapalli districts and one each in Rajanna-Sircilla and Husnabad of Siddipet districts were established. As many as 1,324 voters including Corporators-109, Councilors-369, ZPTCs-70, MPTCs-76 and Ex-Officio members-14 are going to exercise their votes. While 581 are male voters, 743 are female electors.
‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) is not an option in the LAC election. A total of 36 polling observers and 12 micro observers have been deployed for polling. On the other hand, about 1,113 security persons including ACPs/DSP-10, CIs-26, SIs-54, ASIs-115, constables-323, women constables-86, Homeguards-134 and ten teams of quick reaction and dog quad have been deployed to conduct election in a peaceful manner.
Polling staff on Thursday left for polling stations by collecting polling material from distribution, reception and counting center established in SRR Government Degree and PG College.
Interacting with polling staff, Collector RV Karnan instructed them to conduct polling in a perfect manner by following the Election Commission of India’s guidelines and instructions given to them during the period of training.
He advised micro observers to watch keenly the polling process to be held from 8 am to 4 pm. Polling officers and voters should not bring mobile phones inside the polling stations. Before starting polling, staff should seal ballot boxes only after showing empty boxes to the agents of contestant candidates.
Informing that MPDOs and Municipal commissioners would be available at polling stations, he said electors would be allowed to exercise their votes only after they were identified by the officials.
Instructing the staff to conduct elections by following Covid norms, he advised the staff to distribute single gloves to voters and ensure gloves should be dumped in the dustbin after casting votes.
Health and help desks have been established in all polling stations, he informed and advised the staff to go straight to polling stations without halting in the middle after collecting polling material from the distribution center. Advising staff not to keep ballot boxes in compartments, he wanted the staff to keep them in front of officers.
After completion of polling, ballot boxes should be sealed in the presence of agents and shifted to SRR college reception center in buses amid security. Ballot boxes would be stored in a strong room.
