Hyderabad: Gone are the days when one would have to go to a bakery for desserts and confectionaries.
Now, city dwellers are warming up to the idea of dessert food trucks – also called Ciel Dessert Bar. Having started off with cupcakes, Ciel Dessert Bar offers varieties such as brownies, lamingtons, pastries, donuts, breads and cookies to name a few.
Started in 2015 by Udayasri Puli, the city’s first dessert food truck has not just been leaving people on streets drooling but also has been supplying their delicacies to IT hubs and premium supermarkets. In addition, the seven-year patisserie on wheels also home delivers a variety of products.
Although Udayasri left Hyderabad to pursue her Masters in London, her love for Hyderabad and the zeal to do something made her comeback and start Ciel Dessert Bar. “Hyderabad has been my home. I really connect to the place. So, I thought why not take back a part of London to Hyderabad by bringing both cities together on a dessert platform.”
When quizzed why dessert trucks in specific, she said that she had observed a lot of food trucks in London which was not a thing in Hyderabad at that time. She also mentioned that her love for desserts inspired her to come up with the idea.
“Food trucks are easy as you can move them to different places, which means you can move your business to different places. Also, the capital investment is way lesser than setting up a store,” she added.
Udayasri runs a dessert kitchen in Madhapur where she along with her team prepares their own desserts that are sold in the food trucks. Having said that, it isn’t a bed of roses to maintain a food truck and she credits her team and customers for the success of the business.
“Once the customer believes in you, they pave the way for you. If it is not for the customers, I don’t think we would be able to do anything,” she says.
Joining the emerging trend of electric vehicles, Udayasri and her team also plan to shift to electric food trucks in the coming few weeks. “By this July, we aim to have four operating electric trucks around the city,” shares Udayasri on an optimistic note.
