A check dam built across the Manair river near Gumpula in Odela mandal collapsed under suspicious circumstances, sparking speculation among locals. While some alleged the sand mafia was behind the incident to resume quarrying banned by the Green Tribunal, others suggested structural leakages caused the failure.

The deceased, Kunja Biksham (41), was found dead in a check dam near the village on Monday. According to locals, Biksham's nephew, Kunja Pravin, and a close relative, Malkam Gangaiah, took him to the area near the check dam on Sunday night under the pretense of drinking alcohol.
According to local people, unknown persons reached the spot along with a tractor and drilling machine late on Monday night and tried to blow up the check dam using detonators and gelatin sticks.
