"The situation is far from being back to normal. The level of contamination remains high and has tended to increase since mid-December," Xinhua news agency quoted Castex as saying at a press conference on Thursday.
India continued its streak of low daily new cases. Till now, 1,00,37,398 have recovered. Currently, there are 2,25,449 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 96.36 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.45 as per cent.
With 391 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the toll has mounted to 1,43,019. The total number of active cases is at 3,56,546 while the total discharged cases are at 93,57,464 with 33,136 new discharges.
The country reported more discharges than new cases in the last 24 hours bringing down the active cases tally to 3,59,819, which is the lowest after nearly 145 days. The total active cases were 3,58,692 on July 18.
