Hyderabad: Telangana Cricket Association appealed to the State Government, asking why necessary steps were not being taken to restore the 17 GHMC (formerly MCH) cricket clubs that were “illegally privatised”.
TCA general secretary Guruva Reddy asked why the Government remained silent when public institutions and Government-allotted clubs were being illegally grabbed by private individuals with no accountability.
“These are not mere allegations but are based on the report of the Supreme Court-appointed Supervisory Committee headed by Justice N A Kakru to regulate the functioning of HCA,” he said.
“The committee further observed that HCA’s electoral roll is being run on an unknown and unverified source, and that 206 member clubs are registered with addresses in Hyderabad city, including 155 private clubs and 51 institutions,” the TCA official said.
“Further, only 10 districts of Telangana (as existed on 20.06.2014) are represented, while the newly formed 23 districts are not represented, clearly proving that HCA has failed to function as a true state body. The committee also initiated an inquiry with the District Registrar, Ranga Reddy district, and sought information from the 2019 election officer to understand the basis on which the electoral roll was prepared,” Guruva Reddy recalled.
“The Supervisory Committee’s interim findings, based on AGM reports and alleged master registers, reveal massive fraud. In 1986, there were 156 private and institutional clubs as members of HCA. Between 1986 and 1993, there were 20 MCH clubs as members of HCA. Out of these, only three clubs (Red Hills, MCH and Mayors) remain with GHMC as on date,” he explained.
“Prima facie, 17 clubs have changed hands and are now under private ownership, which is a direct illegal privatisation of public property,” Guruva Reddy alleged.
