Telangana: 220th Ordnance factories day celebrated in Medak
As part of celebrations, a photo exhibition was held and put on display for the general public were BMP-II (Armoured Personnel Carrier) known as ‘SARATH' and an ambulance variant of the same vehicle.
Hyderabad: Ordnance Factory Medak, will have to emphasise more on R&D and development of new products due to the entry of private defence manufacturers in the new business environment visualised by the Indian government as part of Atma Nirbhar Bharath, said Alok Prasad, General Manager, Ordnance Factory Medak, here on Thursday.
Participating in the Ordnance Factories’ Day which had a series of programmes commemorating over 200 years of history of ordinance factories in India, Prasad said, “it is expected that the factory will produce the Futuristic Combat Vehicles (FICV), AVT (LR), Command ICV, NAMICA etc in future”.

Despite restrictions due to Covid-19, the factory was poised to achieve the targets of 2020-2021, he said adding the factory however has optimum load for another few years in the form of over 250 ICV’s (Infantry Combat Vehicles) and overhauling of 100 vehicles per year.

A Prabhat Pheri was organized in the morning in which Alok Prasad and other employees and representatives of unions and associations participated and later the Ordinance Factory flag was unfurled.
Two employees Anjaneyulu and Pulla Reddy received ‘Ayudh Sri’ awards by the Ordnance Factory Board for their contribution towards production and productivity.
It was on March 18, 1801 that the British East India Company established a Gun Carriage Factory in Kolkata in 1801. At present, there are 41 Ordnance Factories across the country under Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata, of the Ministry of Defence.
