Khammam: A Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on HIV for Anganwadi teachers was organised on Wednesday under the aegis of the Telangana State AIDS Control Society.
District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr B Kalavathi Bai emphasised that all Anganwadi teachers should be fully aware of HIV and play a key role in preventing its spread through extensive awareness campaigns across the district.
She added that HIV-positive individuals should be treated with respect and must not face discrimination. With proper treatment using ART drugs, HIV-infected people can extend their lifespan and enjoy the same rights as everyone else in society.
Dr Kalavathi Bai also urged that every pregnant woman should get tested for HIV. If found positive, she can prevent transmission to her unborn child through ART medication.
Additional Medical and Health Officer (AIDS & Leprosy) Dr P. Venkataramana, programme officers Dr Chandu Naik, Dr Bindu Sri, Dr P Rama Rao, ART Dr Lakshman Rao, District Mass Media Officer V Subramanyam, and others were present.
