The Telangana Assembly passed the SC Sub-Classification Bill on Tuesday
Hyderabad: The State Assembly on Tuesday passed the Telangana Scheduled Castes (Rationalisation of Reservations) Bill, 2025 amidst a few demands from MLAs.
Extending all support to the Bill, BRS MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy reminded that a resolution was passed in the House during the BRS tenure and the same was sent to the Centre. However, the Constitution was not amended. Had it been done, many would have benefited, he stressed, also demanding that the State government ensure that reservations in education and jobs in the coming days were implemented as per the SC Sub Classification.
“The local body elections should be conducted after the SC classification is completed as it will benefit the Madiga community,” Prashanth Reddy demanded.
Similarly, Congress MLA from Chennur G Vivek Venkatswamy wanted the State government to share the details of the Justice Shameem Akther Commission report. “I fail to understand the reasons behind not sharing the report copy with the Members. There are a few apprehensions,” he said, also wanting the State government to allocate 18 percent funds in the budget for SC welfare and development.
Meanwhile, CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao objected to the inclusion of the Relli caste in Group III category of the Scheduled Castes. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy thanked all the parties for extending support to the Bill. The Shameem Akther Commission had received and examined 8,681 representations and conducted a transparent study and submitted its report on February 3 to the Cabinet Sub Committee. The State government was following all the recommendations by the Commission, he said.
The 59 castes under SC have been categorized into three Groups. Under Group I, 15 castes have been categorized and one percent reservation was being extended. Likewise, 18 castes were categorized under Group II and nine percent reservation was being offered and under Group III, 26 castes were categorized and five percent reservation was being offered, the Chief Minister explained.
He also said the State government would offer top priority for the families which had lost their members as part of the SC sub classification agitation, in Indiramma Indlu allotments and Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme as well.
On Monday, the Assembly had passed the Telangana Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of seats in educational institutions and of appointments or posts in the services under the State). It had also passed the Telangana Backward Classes (Reservation of seats in rural and urban local bodies) Bill, 2025.
