Hyderabad: Bringing major relief to students during the Covid-19 pandemic, the State government has made changes in the pattern of the SSC Public Examinations. According to the new format, students will have to write six question papers instead of the existing 11 after the government reduced the number of question papers for the academic year 2020-21. This means, there will be only one paper for each subject.

Telangana Today had published an exclusive report on December 18, 2020 that the government was planning such a move.

The examinations will be held for a total of 600 marks, including 480 marks for board exams and 120 marks for internals i.e., average of two formative assessments.

“As part of the new six question paper pattern, paper-I and paper-II of First Language, English, Mathematics, General Science (Physical Science and Biology) and Social Studies will be merged into a single paper instead of two papers for each subject. There will be no change in the second language paper,” according to the memo issued by the government on Wednesday.

Another relief for Class X students is that the duration of the examination has been increased by half an hour, i.e. from 2 hours and 45 minutes to 3 hours and 15 minutes. As classes were held online for a major part of the academic year owing to the pandemic, more choice in questions for each question paper would be provided. This apart, officials have been asked to frame questions from the syllabus given under essential core concepts/units for classroom transaction for all subjects. They were also asked to issue answer booklets, separately for Physical Sciences part-A and Biological Science part-B to facilitate valuation of answer scripts.

“There will be no change in the existing weightage of marks i.e. 80 marks for final examination (board exam) and 20 marks for formative assessment for all six papers,” the memo said.
The government has not changed the marks pattern of composite courses such as 03T/04S and 03U/08H, 05A, OSSC courses, and vocational courses. The School Education department has been instructed to take further necessary action in the matter. Last year, the SSC Public Examinations were cancelled due to the pandemic and all students were passed on the basis of the internal assessment marks.

Relief for Students

– Duration of exam increased by 30 minutes- from 2 hours and 45 minutes to 3 hours and 15 minutes
-Exam will be held for 600 marks, including 480 marks for board exams and 120 marks for internals
-No change in the existing weightage of marks
-More choice in questions in each question paper
– Marks pattern of composite courses unchanged
