Hyderabad: The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has decided to integrate emerging courses such as AI, ML, Data Science to the core engineering branches like Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering.
The move is aimed at reviving the core engineering branches, which have been witnessing significant drop in admissions, besides enhancing the employability quotient of students who graduate from these programmes.
The emerging courses will be made mandatory for students opting for the core engineering branches. While the total credits i.e., 160 will remain the same, these compulsory courses will be qualifying in nature.
The committee constituted by the TGCHE to formulate a new curriculum is taking into account the AICTE model curriculum for rolling out a template for engineering syllabus.
The committee, headed by TGCHE Secretary Dr Sriram Venkatesh, comprising JNTU Electrical department Prof Bhaskar, CCI ex-president Sekhar Reddy, and Data Security Council of India (NASSCOM) CEO Dr Sriram, will meet within a week and finalise the syllabus.
