Telangana food safety raids uncover 1,903 expired and misbranded food items
Food Safety Officers seized 1,903 units of expired and mislabelled food during inspections at 75 warehouses in Telangana, including those operated by major e-commerce platforms. Notices were issued to 32 establishments, and samples were lifted for quality testing under FSSA norms.

Hyderabad: During inspections carried out at 75 warehouses in the state, Food Safety Officers detected 1, 903 units of expired food/food articles that were either mis-branded or mis-labelled.
Around 76 kg of expired articles, stale food and rotten vegetables seized from these storage establishments were discarded by the inspecting teams.
During the two-day inspections drive carried Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, at 75 warehouses and storage units being operated bye-commerce platforms in the State, several violations under Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006, were detected.
The inspections covered major e-commerce platforms including Zepto, RelianceJioMart, Blinkit, Big Basket, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, Amazon and other storage units operated by local businesses.
About 98 enforcement and 123 surveillance samples, to be tested in the food laboratory for quality, were lifted.
Notices were issued to 32 establishments, directing them to improve facilities related to food safety and standards. Failure to comply with the mandatory requirements will attract license suspension, cancellation and even closure of the facility, depending on the nature of the violations, under FSSAI Act, the Commissioner of Food Safety in a statement added.
