Hyderabad: The State Cabinet has decided to wait for the High Court’s decision on extending 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections.
The case concerning BC reservations is scheduled for hearing in the High Court on November 3. Based on the outcome of the proceedings, the government will decide on conducting the elections, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said.
The Cabinet also approved abolishing the rule that disqualified candidates with more than two children from contesting local body elections. This will be implemented through an ordinance, he said.
Briefing media persons on the Cabinet decisions taken on Thursday, the Minister said the government had resolved to stop the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) works at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal and complete the remaining portion using advanced technology.
These works will be undertaken without any financial burden on the State government, and the same agency currently handling the TBM works will continue. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 or early 2027, he added.
The next Cabinet meeting is scheduled for November 7. The Minister said the four super-speciality hospitals coming up at LB Nagar, Sanathnagar, Alwal, and Warangal would be completed at the earliest.
The Cabinet also approved setting up 1,500 MW battery energy storage units and dismantling the 62.7 MW thermal unit at Ramagundam, which has been in operation for over 50 years, he said.
