Hyderabad: The Government of Telangana issued a recommendation that the State agencies use Uniken’s REL-ID (RELationship-IDentity) platform to secure State-owned and managed mobile applications.
The recommendation was announced by Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Government of Telangana after a rigorous evaluation and a thorough proof-of-concept.
In his statement, Ranjan said, “The credentials of Uniken are very impressive and the fact that an India-based technology has gone global is a matter of pride. State government departments and agencies which are using mobile applications for service delivery can benefit greatly from this technology.”
Mobile interactions with the government are on the rise. Since 2015, under the ‘Digital India’ initiative, the government has launched a host of mobile apps for Android and Apple iOS users to avail government services online, from storing and sharing documents, to accessing e-Gov services, making cashless payments, and participating in governance and policy making.
Malware, phishing, and other growing security threats are on the rise. For government agencies, which have a unique responsibility to protect citizens’ data, the threat to national security is accompanied by the risk of a loss of trust by the public.
Zero trust, identity and access management (IAM) and authentication strategies, and secure mobile gateways can help limit the risks to critical data.
Multiple benefits
Uniken’s REL-ID security platform is a cybersecurity solution that is embedded into a mobile app. As users log in, the solution works behind the scenes to check their device to make sure it’s not rooted or jailbroken, scan for malware, and create a unique identifier on the device to know it’s not an emulator or clone impersonating another’s phone, all while respecting the user’s privacy.
REL-ID further leverages a sophisticated series of cryptographic elements that verify the user’s identity after all the other invisible security checks have been performed.
Mutual multifactor authentication provides reassurance for both users and system administrators while biometric authentication, such as fingerprinting, offers a safer and more practical way forward for the private sector.
Bimal Gandhi, CEO of Uniken, praised the Telangana Government for taking steps to further protect the interests of its citizens.
“Today, cyberattacks are more sophisticated and customers have higher-than-ever expectations of service anytime, anywhere, and from any device. Whether you are in the private or public sector, placing the burden of security on the user has shown to be ineffective time and time again. Our security platform gives users a cohesive, seamless, and secure experience without burdensome passwords or tokens,” added Gandhi.
