Telangana job aspirants face new hurdle as upper-age relaxation lapses

Telangana job aspirants face fresh uncertainty after the two-year upper-age relaxation for government recruitment expired in February 2026. The delay in extending the relaxation has stalled new TGPSC notifications, including around 3,500 vacancies across multiple departments.

Hyderabad: In addition to ongoing woes of inordinate delay in recruitment notifications, the Telangana unemployed youth have another big reason to worry. The upper-age limit to appear for the direct recruitments has now come down to 34-years as the two-year relaxation with an upper-age limit of 46 years granted by the Congress government lapsed.

The Telangana Congress government issued a GO MS 30 on February 8, 2024, enhancing the upper-age limit by two years to 46 years for a period of two years. This relaxation expired on February 8, 2026.

Earlier, the previous BRS government had significantly increased the upper age limit by 10 years for government jobs in 2022 for a period of two years.

With this decision, the upper-age limit for the general category increased from 34 years to 44 years, SCs, STs, and BCs to 49 years and Persons with disabilities to 54 years, giving opportunities for youth between 18 years and 54 years to compete for government jobs.

After coming into power, the Congress government had enhanced the upper-age limit by two years, taking it to 46 years, for a period of two years.

However, this relaxation was of no use for the unemployed as the government failed to issue Group notifications such as Group – II, III and IV, police and forest department vacancies for which a large number of individuals apply, as such jobs require only intermediate or degree qualifications.

Even before the validity of the upper-age limit lapsed, the Telangana Public Service Commission, as per the sources, raised the issue with the State government in the month of January. In fact, the Commission reportedly wrote a letter to the government seeking an extension of the upper-age limit for another two years.

Despite repeated follow-ups, sources said the government was yet to take a call. Now, this issue has become a hurdle for the Commission, which is unable to move ahead with new recruitment notifications.

Presently, the TGPSC is ready to notify 3,500 vacancies, including forest beat officers and engineers, across 13 departments. However, it can notify only after the government issues fresh orders enhancing the upper-age limit.
