Kothagudem: In an effort to enhance road connectivity in Left wing extremism (LWE) affected areas, the district police laid a 1.9 km BT road connecting a remote village Pusuguppa in Cherla mandal in the district and Rampuram in Chhattisgarh.

Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju along with Bhadrachalam ASP Vikrant Kumar Singh inspected the road on Thursday by riding on motorbikes. Speaking to the media, he informed that the road was laid with the funds worth Rs 3 crore sanctioned by the State government.

The personnel of CRPF, CoBRA and Kothagudem district special party police helped in laying the road without any untoward incidents and in guarding the men and material. Works were executed round the clock for the speedy completion of the road, he said.

Kothagudem Police have also been establishing mobile hospitals in Chennapuram and Pusuguppa with an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore and they would soon be made operational. In addition to that mini rice mills and indoor stadiums in for adivasis in Cherla and Dummugudem mandals, the SP informed

The district police have been focusing more on the surrender of Maoists. Under Operation Cheyutha nearly 220 underground Maoist cadres from Sukma, Bijapur districts in Chhattisgarh as well as Telangana surrendered to Kothagudem Police so far in the year 2025.

Development activities in LWE areas would help to wean away adivasi youths from Maoists’ influence, growth of adivasi villages and encourage underground cadres to give up violence. The road from Pusuguppa to Chhattisgarh borders was not just a road but a path for future development.

The road would ensure connectivity to Bheemaram, Rampuram and other interior villages in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh as the adivasis from those villages would come to Bhadrachalam and Cherla for medical services and others, the SP added.

Special branch Inspector Srinivas, Cherla CI Raju Varma, SI Narsi Reddy and others accompanied the SP.
