Mancherial: The second phase of lockdown to curtail the spread of Covid-19 came into force at 10 am on Wednesday across Mancherial district. Business establishments remained closed and vehicular movement was prohibited, resulting in streets and roads wearing deserted look. Compared to the 2020 lockdown, this time around, the impact on the people seemed relatively low.
Groceries stores, vegetable vendors and wine shops, which were allowed to open from 6 am to 10 am, did not register brisk sales as witnessed during the first day of last year’s lockdown.
They were not swarmed by customers at the last minute. Tipplers have not made a beeline to outlets of liquor, nor formed serpentine queue lines.
However, roadside vendors expressed displeasure over the timings of the lockdown. They wanted the government to impose the lockdown from 12 pm to 6 am. They said that they could not sell the vegetables by 10 am. They opined that a major proportion of the public would tend to buy vegetables and commodities between 9 am to 12 pm.
Mancherial DCP Uday Kumar Reddy toured several parts of the town to monitor the lockdown.
Policemen were seen enforcing the lockdown by moving in the streets and markets by motorbikes and jeeps. Check posts were erected at important junctions and entries of
Mancherial, Bellampalli, Chennur, Mandamarri, Ramakrishnapur, Luxettipet towns for curbing traffic.
Drug stores, hospitals and vaccination centres remained open. Ambulances carrying patients of Covid-19 and other medical emergencies were permitted.
