Telangana monsoon rainfall deficit stands at 12% as August remains sluggish
Telangana has recorded 430.1 mm of cumulative rainfall against the normal 488.8 mm so far this monsoon, a 12 per cent deficit. While July saw a recovery, August rainfall has remained sluggish, with 15 districts currently in the deficient category.

Hyderabad: The monsoon season has crossed the halfway mark, and so far, Telangana has recorded a cumulative rainfall of 430.1 mm against the normal of 488.8 mm, which is a deficit of 12 per cent. Last year, during the same time frame, the State had received about 600 mm of rainfall.
Unlike July, the performance of monsoons in August has been sluggish so far in Telangana. The normal monthly rainfall in August, according to rainfall data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS), is 215.8 mm, and as on August 19, the State has received 90.8 mm of rainfall, which is a 31 per cent rainfall deficit.
The monsoons began on a restrained note in June, recording 104.2 mm against a normal of 130.3 mm, which is a 12 per cent rainfall deficit. In July, however, the monsoons recovered with the State receiving an actual rainfall of 224 mm against the normal 227.4 mm.
Out of the 33 districts, a total of 17 districts currently maintain a normal rainfall status. Kamareddy stands out as the lone district in the excess category with a 23 per cent excess rainfall. A total of 15 districts have slipped into the deficient category.
Hyderabad and all its surrounding districts, including Rangareddy and Sangareddy, are in the normal category, while Medchal-Malkajgiri and Yadadri Bhongir districts fall in the deficit list.
