Kothagudem: In a community outreach initiative, the Kothagudem district police conducted a public awareness programme at Nethakani hamlet in Gundala mandal on Wednesday, urging Adivasi residents not to support Maoist activities.
Additional SP (Operations) G Narender, who interacted with the villagers, cautioned them against cooperating with Maoists, stating that the ultras were obstructing development through outdated ideologies. He appealed to the community to support government efforts aimed at their welfare and progress.
Yellandu DSP Chandrabhanu advised the tribal residents to prioritise education, stressing that it was the only way for their children to achieve success and high positions in society. He warned that any association with anti-social elements or participation in illegal activities could result in legal consequences, including imprisonment.
Officials also encouraged villagers to maintain cleanliness during the rainy season to prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and typhoid. As part of the programme, mosquito nets were distributed to 50 families, and notebooks and pens were given to children.
Narender assured the villagers that mobile network issues in the area would be addressed soon after discussions with the relevant authorities. He also appreciated Pranic Healing Foundation member Pasha for assisting in the mosquito net distribution. Gundala CI Ravinder, SI Rauf, and other officers were present.
In a similar awareness programme held on Tuesday at Singaram and Pedda Venkatapuram villages under Allapalli police station limits, Tekulapalli CI T Suresh and Allapalli SI M Someshwar urged residents not to provide shelter to unknown individuals.
Given recent Maoist encounters and arrests, police said Maoists may attempt to enter Telangana border villages near Chhattisgarh. Residents were urged to inform the police if they spot any Maoist sympathisers. Officials assured that informant identities would be kept confidential and that eligible informants would be rewarded.
