Hyderabad: Private engineering colleges in Telangana will get a new fee structure as the State government is soon set to issue an order fixing the fee.
The Telangana Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) has already sent a file recommending a new fee structure for private engineering for a three-year block period, commencing this academic year i.e., 2025-26. However, it is learnt that the government held back the order as the model code of conduct for Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency bypoll was in force.
The Election Commission of India announcing the bypoll result has now paved the way for fixing the new structure for the colleges. According to sources, the fee for engineering programmes is expected to go up in some top colleges located in Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal districts.
The TAFRC revises fee for the professional programmes once in three years based on income and expenditure incurred by the colleges besides facilities extended to students. Considering documents submitted by the colleges, the Committee had earlier this year fixed the fee. However, the government found abnormal fee hikes in some private engineering, triggering concerns among Education and Finance department officials as the State’s financial condition is already in a bad shape.
This prompted the government to constitute an expert committee to study practices followed by other States in fixing the fee for professional programmes in their respective States. The government revised the rules based on the experts committee recommendations and asked the TAFRC to re-examine the fee structure.
