Hyderabad: An innovative project titled “Parking Management in Crowded Places” by Alsa Mamatha, a Class VII student of MPUPS Bhupalapatnam in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, has received national recognition with the registration of a patent from the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks.
The project offers a simple and practical technological solution for identifying whether a parking slot is vacant or occupied in crowded places such as schools, hospitals, shopping malls, offices and public spaces. The model uses an IR sensor and LCD display, where the system displays “Slot Full” when a vehicle is present and “Slot Empty” when the space is vacant.
The project was first presented at the district-level INSPIRE Exhibition, where it secured first prize, and subsequently advanced to the State Level Exhibition. The innovation has now received patent registration, bringing pride to the school, district and the state.
The student, her guide teacher Sri Moulkari Keshav and District Science Officer Sri Katukam Madhukar received certificates in recognition of the patent registration.
School Education Director Dr E Naveen Nicolas appreciated Class VII student Mamatha for identifying a real-life public problem and attempting to provide a technology-based solution at such a young age.
Dr Nicolas said government schools must continue to nurture scientific temper, curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills among children. He appreciated the guidance provided by teacher Moulkari Keshav and the encouragement extended by District Science Officer Katukam Madhukar.
