The Nizamabad Municipal Corporation elections have triggered a political storm after BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind accused the Congress of misusing police machinery to secure the Mayor’s post. The hung verdict has intensified suspense over who will claim the Mayor’s chair.

The Mancherial Municipal Corporation elections witnessed several nail-biting finishes, with candidates scraping through by narrow margins. In Kyathanapalli municipality, BRS nominees Bomma Bhumaiah Goud and Koppi Rajashekhar won their wards by margins of three and four votes respectively.

Factionalism within the Congress has left the Jagtial municipal council in limbo, with no group securing a majority in the 50-member body. Congress won 23 seats, but internal divisions between senior leader T Jeevan Reddy and MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar have split the party’s strength.

BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan has urged the State Election Commission to audit the election expenses of an independent candidate who won the Moinabad municipal polls, alleging massive electoral malpractice.

With no party securing a majority in the 36-member Mahabubabad Municipality, independents have become decisive in the upcoming chairperson election. Congress, with 16 seats including CPI(M) support, and BRS, with 14 seats including CPI backing, are vying for control.
