Hyderabad - Vijayawada and Hyderabad - Khammam roads are closed due to flood water overflowing at several stretches. Police urged people to avoid travel and said in case of emergencies, people should use alternative routes to reach Vijayawada and Khammam from Hyderabad.
It was said that there were around six persons travelling in the vehicle when the vehicle was swept away by the floodwaters as the driver tried to cross a bridge across the stream and got stuck to a tree.
Tanks and streams overflowed with incidents of tanks breaching in some places. Munneru stream in Khammam city was in spate and flood level reached 36 feet.
The department is continuously monitoring the situation in the State and all senior officials were instructed to be present in the head quarters and supervise the situation.
Expressing condolences to the affected families over the loss of lives, BRS leader T Harish Rao urged the State government to initiate swift action to support those in distress.
