Hyderabad: Two Kakatiya temples built about 750 years ago at Boyagubba village, Chityala mandal in Nalgonda district are under serious threat of negligence and demand immediate conservation measures.
Archaeologist E.Sivanagireddy visited the dilapidated temples on Sunday as part of the campaign ‘Preserve Heritage for Posterity’. He sensitised villagers on the historical importance and features of the Kakatiya era temples.
Dr. Reddy said that one temple is existing only up to Arthamandapa and the superstructure on the roof and the RangaNatya Mandapa are missing due to the vagaries of time and lack of proper upkeep.
Similarly, the second temple with a Mandapa in front side is surrounded by thickly grown thorny bushes hindering easy entry into the temple, he said.
Dr. Reddy informed the villagers that he could extend technical support in restoring the temples, if they come forward to take up conservation and restore the temples’ heritage.
