Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Tension prevailed for a while when councillors of the BRS and the Congress clashed over demolition of buildings as part of road widening works in Kagaznagar on Monday.
Municipal officials took up widening of a narrow road near a flyover in the town. Business establishments raised objections to the widening works, stating that they had already lost land for the construction of the flyover. They regretted that their livelihoods were affected due to the new flyover and urged officials to review the decision to widen the road.
On learning about the road widening works, BRS councillors reached the spot. They stalled the demolition of shops, eateries and cloth stores. Congress councillors also arrived at the spot and entered into an argument with the BRS councillors. They jostled with each other, leading to tension. Police personnel present at the spot dispersed the two groups.
Later, the Congress councillors staged a sit-in on the road seeking action against those who opposed the road widening works. They demanded that officials register a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the BRS councillors. They alleged that the BRS was opposing development of the town. They also stated that compensation would be given to those whose shops were demolished.
