Adilabad: To ensure security for passengers using the public transport system, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), in collaboration with the police department, introduced a CCTV surveillance system in 175 buses under Adilabad region on a pilot project basis. It was the maiden technology-based security project, named ‘Bussullo Bharosa,’ launched by the corporation, officials claimed.
The TGSRTC managing director, Y Nagi Reddy, said that the system was rolled out to provide security to passengers by collaborating with the police department of Adilabad. He stated that every movement of passengers was recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the buses. The system was aimed at not only security of the passengers, but also to check thefts and road accidents, He said.
According to the TGSRTC officials, both the driver and conductor can access the visuals recorded on the cameras. The system is connected to a control system of TGSRTC, enabling higher officials to monitor the security of the passengers. It can play a vital role in detecting offenders and robbers. It would help police in gathering pieces of evidence if an untoward incident or road accident occurred, the officials remarked.
Passengers, in particular, elderly people and women, expressed happiness over the modern security feature brought by the TGSRTC. They stated that they could easily travel longer distances at night without worrying about their security. They opined that the surveillance system would instill a sense of fear among troublemakers.
Besides, the officials pointed out that the driving standards of drivers would also be improved with the advent of the system. Staffers will now discharge duties with much responsibility. The experimental system will be introduced in other regions of the corporation in future if the project yields desired outcome.
