Hyderabad: To cater to the growing passenger footfall, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is planning to develop its infrastructure in the capital region. As part of it, the authorities have proposed to construct about 12 new bus terminals across Hyderabad to improve urban connectivity.

It is learnt that proposals in this regard have been sent to the state government and construction will begin once approval and budget allocations are received.

The proposed new bus terminals are planned at locations including at Kukatpally, Balanagar, Kalimandir, Hitec City, Lingampalli, Jeedimetla, KPHB Colony, IS Sadan, Gandimaisamma, Uppal and Ghatkesar.

To manage congestion in suburban areas, TGSRTC is already operating a total of 108 additional buses, providing 864 extra trips daily. Additionally, 275 Metro Deluxe buses are being operated at 15-minute intervals on major city routes as part of the demand.

The corporation has set a target to deploy 500 electric buses into the vehicle fleet for the financial year 2025–26. So far, 225 electric buses have already been received and the remaining 275 buses are expected to be added in phases between this November and next January. To support this expansion, charging stations are being developed at various depots.

RTC officials noted that passenger numbers under the ‘Mahalakshmi’ free bus scheme have risen significantly, and the corporation is adding new services and developing infrastructure to meet the growing demand from emerging residential colonies.
